Two journalists will venture through the Arctic to explore the science behind climate change for a new digital series from The Young Turks (TYT Network).

Titled True North, the docuseries will star ThinkTank creator John Iadarola and investigative reporter and filmmaker Chavala Madlena — who has worked with The Guardian and BBC. Over the course of 16 episodes, Iadarola and Madlena will explore the impact that climate change has had on the land and people of the Arctic, visiting an abandoned town, learning how to dogsled, hiking on glaciers, and more. True North will bow on Verizon’s go90 video platform on April 19, just ahead of Earth Day, while additional clips will roll out weekly to Verizon-owned HuffPost.

True North — which was created by TYT’s chief business officer, Steve Oh, and directed by Michelle Boley — marks the latest original series launch from TYT on the heels of a $20 million funding round announced last August. The leading progressive digital news network has also subsequently premiered The News w/ Dan Rather and Rebel Headquarters, chronicling progressive movements and candidates nationwide.

“We think viewers will enjoy seeing our hosts out of the studio exploring new parts of the world,” Oh said in a statement, “and we look forward to continuing to provide this kind of on-the-ground reporting moving forward.”

“We’re proud to partner with news pioneers The Young Turks on such a monumental docuseries,” added Verizon’s head of digital content, Ivana Kirkbride. “We hope that audiences everywhere will discover new insights on the alarming changes impacting the health of our planet and its most crucial ecosystems.”
