Position: DevOps/AWS Engineer TYT Tech
Location: Onsite @ Los Angeles Studio

Supervisor: John Graziano, VP of Technology

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll work collaboratively with other engineering team members to deploy software and maintain and operate our systems; assist in automating and streamlining our operations and processes;  maintain tools for deployment, operations, and monitoring of key systems; troubleshoot and resolve issues in our dev, test, staging, and production environments; and maintain uptime for our sites, apps, and content.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Support the  creation of TYT’s next-generation online media infrastructure
  • Support development infrastructure leveraging AWS
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system and deployment issues
  • Maintain and support our web and mobile applications
  • Ensure that TYT’s website, live streams, mobile apps, and member content maintain maximum uptime
  • Investigate and recommend solutions for process automation
  • Collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional teams
  • Manage time and project execution, and communicate effectively with internal customers
  • Other duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Expert, professional knowledge of AWS (EB, EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, CloudFront)
  • Experience with CloudFormation a plus
  • Strong OS X proficiency
  • Background in Linux/Unix administration
  • Ruby on Rails experience a big plus
  • Proficiency in shell scripting and Ruby/Python/Java or similar languages (Ruby a plus)
  • Experience using continuous integration tools such as CircleCI, Bamboo, or Jenkins
  • Knowledge of latest practices in containerization, microservices, and cloud computing
  • Base proficiency in SQL and database administration using MySQL, SQLite, or PostgreSQL
  • Working knowledge of Git and Github
  • Experience with Google Play or iTunes Store deployment a plus
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving ability
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work across teams
  • Knowledge of web design, online media, and/or entertainment a plus
  • Understanding of The Young Turks’ content and audience a plus
  • CS degree or equivalent experience required

  • Successful bringup and maintenance of core development infrastructure
  • Improvement in developer efficiency and site stability
  • Successful completion of development milestones
  • Maximum uptime of website, live streams, mobile apps, and member content


The successful candidate will demonstrate strong motivation, comfort with frequent change requests, and ease with working under pressure. The DevOps Engineer will play a key role in supporting the design and development of TYT’s entire technical infrastructure.
